Hawaii Travel Tips
Climate
The climate in Hawaii has only two seasons. Winter lasts from October to April, while summer is between May and October. Temperatures are mild throughout the year with moderate humidity. The highs are usually in the 90s. The annual rainfall in the waters near the islands is between 25 to 30 inches, but some of the islands can receive as much as 15 times the average or less than a third of the average rain.
Entry Requirements
The requirements to enter Hawaii are the same as traveling to the United States. Most foreign nations must apply for a tourist visa, have a valid passport, and must demonstrate they have financial support. To see what the specific requirements are for you, contact the U.S. Embassy in your country.
Safety
Since Hawaii is an island chain, a lot of people participate in watersports. Make sure you heed swim advisories. Also make sure you're aware of other conditions on beaches, like high surf, rip currents, and jellyfish. If you go hiking, make sure you check with park rangers to find out what the condition is in the area. If you rent a car, make sure you keep all valuables out of sight, and lock up the car. Dial 911 if you have an emergency.
Transportation
If you plan to island hop while in Hawaii, there are several airlines and inter-island ferries. Oahu has the largest bus system, which is easy to use. Some people decide to rent cars or cycle to make their way around the islands. |
